Homemade Handheld Fruit Pies

Hand Pies made simple.

One of my favorite childhood memories is when my Momma would make fried apple pies or chocolate pies. It was her mother, my grandmothers recipe. While I love the taste and crispiness of the fried pie, in my older, wiser years I wanted to make it a tad healthier. Baking was my answer. Using the same pie crust recipe and baking at a slightly higher temperature, gave me a crispy, flaky crust that sure rivals the fried crust. Try it for yourself!

Simple Ingredients. Simple Method.

You just can’t get any easier than this handheld fruit pie. Here you will see, I made cherry hand pies but one of my favorite things to do is use my Instant Pot Baked Apples. I keep them on hand during apple season and they are the best! I always tend to try and keep a pie crust on hand as well. No difference in the pie crust for hand pies than regular ones. You can find that recipe HERE. Simply roll out your dough, fold over it self and in half and roll out again. Do this fold method two more times and roll out your dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with a large cutter and spoon in fruit filling. Seal edges with a fork and use a small knife to vent each hand pie. Brush with a little egg wash and bake for 20-30 minutes at 375 degrees F. You can sprinkle them with powdered sugar or make a glaze like this ONE, or just leave them nekkid, lol. They are good any way!

Enjoy!

No matter how you make them, they are the perfect little package of sweetness that are good for a fancy meal or just because you want something sweet! Be sure to let us know in the comments if you make them and as always, we LOVE pictures of food!!
