Do you know what GOD is, spelled backwards? Easy right? DOG. I am an animal lover. Have been all of my life. As a kid living on a busy highway, I collected and buried cats on the reg. I still love them all. In my adult life, the longevity of our pet life has increased, thankfully. Less than a month ago, I had to bury my baby of the last 9 years, Bitty. It was hard, IS hard. Two years ago, we lost 2 more babies, our big boy Sully and my baby kitty, Priscilla, both within a month of one another. He was about 14 and she was 16. Still hard.
About 4 months after Sully and Priscilla left for the rainbow bridge, we heard about a puppy who was deaf and possibly blind. I knew. I just knew he needed us. Truthfully, I think we needed him. Jasper Ridge ran into our home and gave us a new purpose. He is completely deaf and has some limited vision in his right eye. He is also happy, full of energy and obsessed with sticks and tennis balls. He is the epitome of God's glorious creation. The bible tells us that the Lord is with us and will take care of us always. Deuteronomy 31:8 says;
"8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
We settled right in with doggie sign language and trick and house training. It all just kind of happened. It was so easy it was scary. After we had him for about a year, after a few difficult days with throwing up and not eating, he was diagnosed with Canine Addison's disease. This means his adrenal glands do not produce cortisol. Now after many months of trying to get him regulated, he is healthy and happy. He gets a shot once a month and takes prednisone every day. We look forward to an eventful long life with old Jasper aka, Bobby. He has many names you will find but he only knows the come here sign as his real name. :) So meet the youngest fur baby, Jasper. Ain't he purty?
So, all of the lapping and tapping you may hear in my kitchen, it will be this guy. Next to sticks and tennis balls, he loves the kitchen of The Buttered Home.
